A lullaby for the
millenium
Hush, my child, then snuggle up tight.
I cannot be alone tonight.
Let the world's anger rage on outside.
Sleep in safety, close your eyes.
Though our future is darker than the smoke filled day.
Whatever comes, I'll dry your tears away.
Your friends are gone, they won't be back.
No warning came of the coward's attack.
Just a few moments left to live.
The teacher, and your class, so much to give.
I bless the cold virus that kept you home.
With you here, I'm not totally alone.
When you grow, I'll tell you why.
Daddy went to work, but there he died.
He asked for peace almost every day.
I joined him then, now I have no heart to pray.
The terrorists say Allah, their God, is also mine.
I cannot believe it, for I know my God is kind.
While you sleep I'll cry my tears.
I'm father too now, you won't know my fears.
I'll keep us safe and free from harm.
All I ask is, tonight, you keep me warm.
While you breathe on my neck, I know you are there.
Sleep peacefully my child, dream on without a care.
